hi.

my website has some streaming video. Previously i was able to click on my links and Windows Media Player would open and proceed to buffer then stream the files ( all files are WMV).

Now when i click on these links is asks me if i want to open or save the file, it will download it compeltely THEN open it.

is this a problem with my player or my browser? I set my browser settings do default but it didnt make a difference. Any suggestions about what is going on here?

Post your website....so can check out....might not be Media player?

yeah it does behave on other websites... like live streams, etc. no problem

i know its something with my computer as when i go back to my website ( the same page) it works fine from my work computer.

so its kinda weird.
heres the page that from work, it streams,
but from home it prompts to download.

the link is the "twopumpchump" at the top, just click on it.

The video wants to play OK from here, and I have no problems on that page.

Your machine can handle other web site's video but not your own, which leads to the question about whether IE is inferring because of some setting you have involving your site.

Run through the check list in this article and see if you can pick anything up.

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Uncheck the boxes for "Install on Demand" for IE and Other programs (two boxes).

Try running temporarily with the third box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

If this is a very recent happening perhaps using System Restore might fix it.

Internet Explorer Fix

Have you run the System File checking program by typing Sfc /Scannow in the Run Box?
Requires your XP CD.

And while your CD is in the drive you can try this.
The ability to Repair Internet Explorer does not exist in the version that ships with Windows XP. This feature only becomes available after you upgrade to a newer version. This is normal and has been this way since Windows 98 and IE4. However, you can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and entering the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

c = windows installation. All IE updates will need replacing after a repair.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates (no problem if you substitute them with SP2) but your files and programs will be untouched.
