I joined two partitions of my HD using Partition Magic 6.0. Neither one of the partitions was the one where Windows ME is installed.

Now my computer will only boot up in safe mode. What do I do? I bought a Windows XP CD, as soon as it arrives, I will upgrade to that, so I am not gonna try to re-install winME, but how do I get some of the stuff I want to keep off the LapTop's HD?

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

victor

boot into ME in safe mode, and use system restore ,if you can, to roll back your computer to a earlier date before you used PM6.

You'r right, that's probably the only way to get my stuff off the laptop, then I can re-do the Partitioning, I want it all to be one HD, no more partitions....

thanks for the help

I'm not sure if system restore will actually help you. You've carried out major work on your hard drive, and system restore is really there to restore a computer to an earlier time based on software configs as far as I know? Anyway, worth a try, you've nothing to lose !

If its data retrieval you're after - I wouldn't mess with system restore after repartitioning (no way will it recover that - ME doesn't have the tools). Buy an IDE adapater to allow drive to be connected to PC (very cheap - c. ?5 in UK) - and retrieve data that way.
