Anyone out there had problems running there games after installing XP? HalfLife will not recognise that the disk is in the CD drive. STV Elite Force said there was an error and offered to email Micro$oft with the a report and then shut down. A friend has had no probs with his PC, XP and HalfLife. Any advice would be appreciated.

What version of XP are you running and what version is your friend running? James Collins

XP pro...yeah but are they the final release or are they the beta's or RC releases??

Also check for hardware differences. Different video card, motherboard, soundcard, etc...

I agree with bob. There might be enough differences in hardware to cause this problem. James Collins

i've never been able to get Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear to run on any version of Windows NT, including 2K and XP.

anyone knows why?

also, how effective is compatability mode on games like ShadowWatch that explicitly require Win9x? If you sting me, I won't mind.

Both are genuine originals of HalfLife. XP is the release version on both systems. The problem occurs whether I upgrade over ME with Halflife installed or if I do a clean install of XP and install HalfLife later. My drive is a Ricoh CD/CDR/CDRW/DVD all in one unit and has been no problem until now. The answer may lie in buying a plain vanilla CD Drive and trying that. It has to be said though that it's a pain having to keep reinstalling OSes just to get my games working on Micro$oft's latest monster. I also thought that my spec would be current enough. None of the system is over twelve months old!

Before running any of the games, right click on the exe file for them, choose compatability. Check the box to run under a previous version of windows and choose 98 or ME (which ever it ran best on) and then try to run it. It may fix the Hlaflife problem, but I don't think on the other. It will probably fix the rainbow 6 prob too. Similarly, Driver gives the same error as STV elite.

compatability doesn't work for Red Storm games.

there was a patch for Rogue Spear that allows it to run on Windows 2000. just hope there's one for Shadow Watch. If you sting me, I won't mind.
