windows2003 connection lost

Hi,
One domain with a DC (w2k3) and 10 clients(xp).
The DC act as file server on the network; in particular it stores files that are opened and modified by one of the client (it runs CAD/CAM software).
Sometimes i leave the files opened on my client, and when i return on it to work again(also after one hour), the connection to the server is lost...and i'm not able to save the modification on the file i opened. I lose data.
W2k3 seems to hang the connection after some time. How can avoid this?
