Hi All,
We are looking to upgrade across our domain from NT to W2k, our exchange server, also our BDC, is v5.5 SP3. 50 user network.

Question: Are there any known issues to look for running W2k and 5.5, as well as being a BDC in a 2K environment?

Any help/direction to documentation would be gratefully received.

Thanks

T.

I'm in the process of doing exactly what you described. I have already moved one Exchange 5.5 installation from NT4 to W2K, converting it from a BDC to a member server in the process. For the most part, it's pretty straight forward: Install Windows 2000 clean, then install Exchange 5.5 on it.

Check out the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article KB155216 "How to Move Exchange Server to a New Computer That Has the Same Name". It's an excellent reference about what needs to be done.

We moved our exchange 5.5 server to win2k server in an NT 4 domain two years ago. It was also a BDC. There were no issues, but I would not attempt an in place OS upgrade. Too risky.

As Tom suggests, we built a new win2k server with exchange on it, (BDC) and put it in place.

Later we upgraded the domain to AD and there were still no issues with the server working as a BDC with AD in non-native mode.
