I recently installed Windows XP Home and everytime I shut down my system or even just restart, when XP is back up all of the following information is not there as it was before shutting down or restarting..It loses all internet addresses that I have put in to go to different websites, Favorites are lost as if never saved, any usernames & passwords that XP ask me if I want it to remember when surfing,,all have to be re-entered. I stopped using my outlook express to download my emails because everytime I would download emails then shut the system down and reboot they were all gone! Its like the Computer is forgetting everything I did before shutting down or restarting with the exception of programs that I install and save to the hard drive..Please help!!

A few short details about your system and software might help jog someones memory. I remember McAfee Virus Scan was deleting emails from Outlook Express not so long ago.

Was this a clean install or did you do an upgrade from Windows 9x? What browser are you using? Has it been behaving like this since day 1? Are you getting any error messages or other program crashes?

While we wait for more details you might like to try running the System File Checker program (Sfc /Scannow) and have your XP CD handy while it checks your System Files.

This was not an up grade..It is the full Windows XP Home Edition. I installed it on a harddrive that has a partition with Windows 98 on one and on the blank partition I installed windows XP home..Following the installation, with nothing else installed,,XP would not remember any address in Internet Explorer,Favorites added and even download for offline access, all www. address that were typed into the address box, No history at all expect for the session you just started..Internet explorer or some other program is that ask to remember passwords and usernames, does not retain that information after a restart or shutdown,;In Outlook Express, after shutting down or restarting there would be no emails that were previously there,,so that is why I have not used it and just view them through my internet providers website, that way they are safe..System is a Iwill-333,not the raid version, AMD Athlon 1400 CPU,400 watt power supply, 1 Mushkin256mb PC2400 DDR memory stick, a 32x cdrom attached, Asusv7700 Gefore2 GTS agp card, Creative Ensoniq PCI sound card, 56k PCI modem, 7500rpm Maxtor IDE 14GiG hard drive..ONe partition has Windows 98 the other WindowsXP..Also, now the system is starting to go to just a blank screen after the dark windows XP logo with the loading bar below the logo..When I hit the restart button it boots normally in to windows XP on this try..???Dont understand this either??Thanks for your, or anyone elses help!!

You could try repairing windows XP by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

REPAIR WINDOWS

Boot from XP CD
(Windows will now load some temporary files)

Options after booting :-

*To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R

*To Quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3

Press ENTER for first option (don't select Recovery Console)
(Accept Eula agreement)
