can i talk about windows xp in here?
good, cuz i'm going to anyway... :o)
i had heard that winXP was faster, more reliable and just better than 98 period... but i don't see that at all. my printer prints about 10 times slower than it did with 98, and all of my games run much slower too.
i just haven't found anything good about this operating system yet.
any of your opinions would be nice to hear.
thanks.

Hi smiley0q0,
Im not sure but some of it may have to do with System Restore.
XP also has other things that run in background that dont need to be there . My wife got a new PC at work with XP. I connected it for her and the boot up was slower than this one and it is a 466 HP!It is supposed to be more stable but im not convinced yet! Hope this helps!

You sure you are not running hardare out of the ark? Xp demands something decent, if its less than a P500 with 128 MB RAM you may as well take your ball and go home.

Don't matter guys
XP is really not good on gaming, cuz there are tone of graphic overhead loaded on when windows started up

if you shut them all down, might increase your speed a bit

i did that test, i would say Windows 2000 Pro is the best pick for my games and apps, from Unreal, AOE, AOK, AOC, Wolfenstein, StarCraft and on and on....

Yes xp lags big time..... i am taling about two systems i tested it on.
one is P4 1.7 1gig of ram, 60GB IBM drives, 64MB of GeForce 3
the other one is a dual p3 933 with 1 gig of ram, and Seagate 15k 18GB on a dual channel 39160

load win2k on to admin account then you are set to go wild on anything

You know, I tried out XP myself, and the OS made my harddrive drive letter F - stupidest thing I'd ever seen, so any program install defaults to installing to the C drive, very annoying.

I couldn't even figure out how that Windows Update that supposidly can grap the latest hardware drivers - it downloaded new drivers for my hardware, but failed to do anything with them.

XP also though I had an optical drive in my computer. Why?

Couldn't get XP to receive an ip address from a DHCP server...

XP couldn't figure out how to shut off the computer when shutting down, got so used to Win98 just taking care of everything.

I think you had a bad installed or an old version of xp
i tried the latest final release and i never have those problem you memtioned.

Who would use xp latest drivers from their update anyway
the latest drivers on Microsoft Update site never work on win2k either, it crashes every time after you reboot them

as for letter drive F and optical and shutting down
i had install xp on quite a few computers and the IT friends i know of, none have these problem.

try to get the latest version and install it from ground up, please do not upgrade, upgrade causes problem sooner or later.
good luck
