I just installed windows XP and when I run Corel photo paint I receive an error pntvideo.drv not found or not enough memory. I have the file in place and plenty of memory.
I just did some research on this. Microsoft has a knowledge base article that says the problem is caused by attempting to access a 16-bit .dll, which is not supported on XP. The Corel Support website has a newsgroup for legacy versions which also has this question posted. The response from the Corel tech is that there is no solution they are aware of - you must upgrade. The user who posted the original question attempted to run it under Windows 98 compatibility mode in XP, since it had worked on his 98 system, and had no success. I also tried it under 95 compatility mode on mine, and also had no success.
The only reason I was trying to load it was to try to convert a bitmap to an icon, which I don't even know if it will do. I found a great utility for this on tucows at:
But if you need the full functionality of the program, you will probably have to upgrade. The user who posted the original question reported finding copies of Version 8 cheap on ebay ($15 I believe).
