Windows XP - Slow login

Please help!.[sadeyes]

I'm having extreme problems with the login speed of my PC. It is taking 30 minutes to complete the login process. Watching the processes start up in "Task Manager" I'm noticing that it is using almost all of my 512Mb RAM and upto 2Gb of swap file space. It all appears to be connected with the process "services.exe".

I've ran Symantec AntiVirus and Ad-Aware but can not find anything. I did however run HijackThis which produced the following log file;

I have noticed the programs; mdm.exe, msupd.exe & msupd5.exe and a service called "vbllpmbgnkcp" which refers to "msupd5.exe".

Have I been affected by a Trojan, and if so how do get rid of them?.
 
Hola,

1.) it seems that your HiJackThis Log is clean...

2.) under Services, set the WIA Service to MANUAL or Disable it... this should speed up boot time, as the OS is looking for Imaging Hardware connected to your System, by setting it to Manual this will then be used only when needed...

I don't know. I couldn't find anything good about msupd5.exe.

Also try running Spybot as well (make sure you update it first before scanning, same with Ad-Aware)

Use this carefully. Bootvis.exe:

Never interrupt this tool. You can easily see log files being generated that will exhaust your hard drive space if you do.

You might benefit from "Do-it Yourself Bootvis": faq779-4518

The point of Bootvis is to identify what is making your boot process take so long.

I've since renamed the files; msupd.exe & msupd5.exe, so that they don't start up and it appears to have fixed the problem. The service name "Miscrosoft" kind of gave it away.

My question now is how do I delete these services?.
