Hi Folks,

Came into work this morning to find my hard drive had crashed. Following a diagnostics test, I have learned that it has three bad blocks. If I attempt a windows XP repair install is it likely to affect any future attempts to recover data from this hard drive?

Roger,

I'm not aware of any limit, not that there couldn't be one, I just never came across one or heard of one... but it could be possible, memory is limited on the circuit board...

to the second statement, most bad blocks you will never ever notice, this is due to the firmware already locking them to where the filesystem can't touch them...

you will only notice them once you do a low level format, which I believe almost no one has done in the past 5 yrs. or so...
