I had to remove Norton System Works 2003 from my laptop and re-install, could not re-install Norton Antivirus, said to put in Norton ANtivirus Label CD. So I removed all instances of Norton from my registry after removing the program again through control panel remove programs. Now my start/help does not work and my start/search does not work, I went to far. System restore also will not work. Do I need to reinstall Windows XP, or is there a better way to clean up my registry?

To re-do your search: type in the run: ~system root~\inf in the window that appears locate the file: srchasst <right click> install.
Help is rubbish anyway

Try this link with a view to fixing your search engine and help.
Click on WIN XP FIXES on the left of the page and look for "Win XP Search Problems" and "Fix Windows® XP Help".
Also running the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it (and have your XP CD handy) may help.
If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Might be the Klez virus as this stops antivirus software, Help, Task Manager and other programs from functioning.
