appreciate the help.

I recently purchased a Samsung Q35 Duo Core Centrino, T7200 2.00GHz, 1.2GB
RAM, Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Laptop

I went for Windows XP Pro SP2 rather than Vista.

Shame I do not know when this started but I think it may have been related
to a Windows Update.

The Laptop start-up time was extremely fast and is now very slow about 3-4
minutes to start-up. The main delay is when the Windows XP Screen appears
with the white left to right scrolling bar. It just sits there for about 1-3
minutes then proceeds to boot ok. The Laptop once booted works just great.
Shutdown is fine. Hibernation takes forever to shutdown but starts fine and
Standby works fine both standing down and starting up.

I have deleted all temp files (CCleaner and Window Washer)
Defragged hard disk (Diskeeper)
Removed all unwanted start-up programmes, except Trend Micro and Ad-Aware
Scanned system with Ewido, Ad-Aware, Trend PC-illin, PC Tools Spware Doctor
and several others, all seems clear of any spyware, etc
Ran some Registry Cleaners
Played around with MSCONFIG
Used BOOTVIS
Installed XPBOOTLOG and the Greatis support team could not find and issue.

There appears to be two delays on booting as stated above the Windows L-R scrolling screen and then after that a black screen that appears for about a minute.

Relating to Bootvis on looking at the boot file there appears to be a long delay after about 57-58 seconds of about one minute when there is no CPU/Memory/Disk/Driver activity at all.

Relating to the XP Bootlog file, the above is verified and I have the file below.

You can see the delay at about 58 secs after loading fips.sys

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

In the System Events when the system start-up it seems to halt for 3-4
minutes when loading driver BCM4SBXP which is the Broadcom 10/100
LAN/Ethernet Driver.

One other thing should I have my swapfile/page file on a separate partition?

1. there seems to be a 2 second delay loading up the drmk.dll file. this file is used to decrypt audio streams containing DRM-protected content.

2. there is also a 19 second delay loading up cdaduio.sys. This file is cd audio filter driver. there are a lot of reports of malware pretending to be the cdaudio.sys file.

3. Tmpreflt.sys is a file created by trend micro. this file looks like it is part of a virus scanner. There are also reports of malware pretending to be ths file.

I personally would open up your services panel and try disabling the Tmpreflt.sys, reboot and see how long it takes to restart.

Let us know if this has made the computer faster

Thank you for your reply.

I have deleted the Trend Micro Application including the Tmpreflt.sys and this made no diffence to the startup time. As for the audio files I have noticed that the audiio sound seems to be distorted.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in anticipation
