windows xp pro error after repair installation

after i did a repair installation using the windows xp pro cd, i get many errors

- cannot copy and paste
- windows media player says cannot perform operation low memory
- msconfig doesnt work
- cannot open picture files
- internet explorer cannot open new windows

im using service pacxk 3

1. Run a MEMTEST on the system, to make sure that the RAM installed is good...

2. from the Recovery Console, run CHKDSK /F (/R) (to insure that the filesystem integrity is good)...

3. Slipstream SP3 (5512) and then redo the repair install...

the thing is i cant even copy and paste which steps 2 and 3 require

my computer is runnign service pack 3 now. but my xp cd is service pack 1. so when i do the repair installation, could there be some sort of conflict? i also cant add/remove programs when i tried to uninstall service pack 3.

Step 2 and 3 Did not require Copy and Paste at all...

I think you are heading for a clean install, the way it sounds... it may not be loading the correct drivers and thus is turning of the video card, or you have a hardware problem.

now why not explain the reason behind the repair install, in the first place, this would help in assessing the situation...

clean install with SP1 and then apply SP3, or create a slipstreamed XP SP3 CD and then do a clean install...

Save your data as best you can and then do a clean install and format as Ben suggests. I would try the Slipstream of SP3 with your XP SP1 CD to produce a new XP SP3 CD.

the initial problem that made me do the first repair installation was the endless rebooting b4 the password login screen. i read somewhere else that repair install would solve it. it did solve the endless reboot but then i got the errors as mentioned in the first post.

my xp pro cd used for repair install is service pack 1. my current pc is using service pack 3. i dunno if this will cause conflicts.

but after i did another repair install, during the repair it says there is an error and software will nto be installed. the pc rebooted and has since gets stuck forever just before the password login screen. then my monitor will say no video input.

now i cant even save any data cause i cant enter password and login to windows.

it can... as XP SP1 does not understand some of the changes brought in with SP2, much less SP3... now if it was SP2, then it would not matter...

that is the reason why we suggested to slipstream the SP, you can do this on another PC, burn the created image (nLite) and then try to repair again... though I would definitely suggest that you do a clean install...

this is called a reboot loop, and can have many reasons, one of which is wrong or corrupt drivers, aswell as hardware problems...

then my monitor will say no video input.

do you have video at all now? can you get into the BIOS? how about safe mode (by hitting F8 continuously after POST completion before it loads the OS)?

well i manage to get into safe mode adn solved the problem.
but now sometimes when i click on my computer i get an error which crashes explorer. i have to go task manager and run explorer again. and when i looked at task manager i noticed a process called drwtsn32.exe

im suspecting it causes the crash. any way to resolve this

Anything helpful in the Event Viewer, have you tried any DrWatson logs, there might be something in there?

If you want the highly technical cause of a crash look in the Documents and Settings/ All Users/ Application Data/ Microsoft/ Dr Watson/ Drwtsn32.log

Find the entry that is relevant by date and time to the crash you are investigating. The exact cause of the crash is indicated by "FAULT ->" on the left of page next to line of code causing the crash. This, if your as cluey as me, wont tell you much but you can use it to see if it is the same fault all the time, and further up the log you can find what processes and modules are running.
