I am setting up an incoming connections on windows XP.

I am having trouble authenticating linux machines coming in among other things.

I know my problem is with allowin "plain text authentication" in XP.

How do I set that up on the machine? I believe it is a registry setting.

Thank you

I know there is a reg key for allowing plain text authentication. I am trying to get this working for a windows dailin connection. I just don't know what it is!

I discuss in my link above what is required on your SAMBA or other SMB for authentication on the SMB server side. For the registry patch for XP:

Open a notepad session plain_passwords.reg and copy and paste the below. Double-click the file to install:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkStation\Parameters] "EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000001
