i have tried all ways to get into windows xp home. safe mode gets as far as loading mup.sys and stops.
when i boot from the xp cd and try the repair option it first asks me what windows do i want to load it gives 1 option 1:windows i choose that and it then asks for an administrator password. there is no administrator password on the computer.
this is the 2nd pc that i have seen that asks for a password even though there is none.

You're hitting the first 'R' wich is for the Recovery Console. Enter past that and select the second 'R' which is a Repair installation.

tnx worked a treat!
