I have encountered an error on my computer (P4 2Ghz - 512MB RAM) with the blue screen of death. The error message is as follows: "Stop C0000021 - Bad Checksum in lz32.dll possibly corrupt etc." I have tried running the XP startup disk and then repairing the installation and running check disk but I then reboot and the blue screen still comes up. I don't have XP SP1 so whether or not that has something to do with it. I have SP1 on cd but how do I install it to prevent the BSOD coming up??

Boot from your XP CD and enter the recovery console by choosing the first R(epair) option given when you select to install XP.

delete c:\windows\system32\lz32.dll
expand drive:\i386\lz32.dl_ c:\windows\system32\lz32.dll

I know you said you did this, but do it again:

chkdsk c: /r

I don't know if this is related, but on the computer that I had problems installing XP Home on before (see thread616-920740) I now get an error coming up saying that driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. Does anyone have any ideas, it was working fine until I gave it back to it's owner who then plugged in his own monitor, keyboard, etc and now it isn't working so presumably it is a driver problem, how can I identify the problem in safe mode?

Look at Event Viewer to get more details on the error: Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

Hopefully a specific driver will be mentioned as the problem. You can then use the Internet to find an updated driver.

Otherwise, run Driver Verifier:

Do you know where I can find an updated driver for Intervideo WinDVD 2000 to work with Windows XP?

Have updated a scanner driver for xp on the said computer by downloading it onto mine, i now cannot get it off, have uninstalled the program but two dead links still remain which will not delete and I now get a message coming up at the beginning of every session saying the driver for the scanner needs a digital signature (HP precision LT) Any ideas how I can get rid of it completely please?

Use the search feature for the driver names, right-click on them when discovered, and delete them.

SOrry I might not have made it clear it that last message. Because of the way the file unzipped itself the files in question are on my computer, not the one I was repairing. I only have two files left on my computer I need to delete, cpeupdate.dll and hpupdate.exe. Each time I try to delete them it says that access is denied and they cannot be deleted. They are in a file named sj650 in the c:\ folder.

How do I use the dellater programme, is it possible for you to instruct me step-by-step please bcastner?

Start Windows Explorer and make a new folder on your C drive called Utilities. Download dellater and place the zip file into that directory. Unzip it.

Start, Run, CMD
c:
cd \Utilities
cd \dellater
dellater c:\sj650\cpeupdate.dll
dellater c:\sj650\hpupdate.exe
exit

Now reboot.

Download this, and place it in your new Utilities folder:
Run it and see if you find any reference to cpeupdate.dll or hpupdate.exe. If so, uncheck the boxes to disable them.

If you found a reference, reboot at this point.

Then: Start, Run, CMD

C:
cd \sj650
del *.*
exit

Excellent as always!

Ask linney for a second opinion!

I am glad you got the issue sorted.

Best,
