windows XP /hardrive ?

I just built a new computer that contains a asus a7n8x mother board, amd athlon xp 2700, 512mb memory, 120 GB hard drive. I am running windows xp. Everything was going find until i added back my old 20GB hard drive. Since adding it everytime i restart and click on my computer i can not access my hard drive for at least 1 min. Where when i first installed minus the old HD i could access the hd as soon as the my computer window opened. I have since then disconnect the old 20gb hd but still get the same problem. Know a new problem is occurring as i play video games windows will just crash every 5 or 6 minutes. Does any one have any idea what is going on and what the possible solution might be.

Check if you installed the latest VIA drivers. They used to be called VIA 4in1 but now they are called VIA Hyperion drivers. Get the latest for you board.

Belay that order Captain! Kocky, this is an Nvidia Nforce2 motherboard NOT a Via chipset equipt board at all.
You got one thing right though, there are new drivers available for this motherboard as well, the 2.03? I think , download from Nvidia's website (one driver set covers all) and on such a new chipset the use of the newest drivers is always advisable.
There have been major issues with this board on first release so personally I would flash the bios as well.
Also very picky with memory type, memory settings and manufacturers Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Thanks for the ideas i will give it a try. However, do you all think this will just start all of a sudden. I was using the computer for 1 day before this problem occurred. But i guess you never know. I guess i can give it a try and see.

The longer you work with computers the more you realize anything can happen and that they are definately not vulcan like! (totally illogical in the words of Mr Spock) this must be down to the interaction between so many differant component configurations and software anomolies.
Just when you think you can first guess a problem it hits you in the arse and turns out to be something completely new. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.
