Hi,

My windows xp prof. automatic updates' options are grey off.
Please help !!!

Thank you for your help. I tried the regsvr32 and changed the registry.

Automatic update options are still grey or no options.

What Can I do next.

Have you recently done a repair install of XP as per thread779-1447679:

Some general things to try.

Have you got any errors showing up in your Event Viewer?

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Windows.


Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

It sounds to me like one of 3 things:

1) A policy
2) A service isn't running
3) A broken DLL (Start --> Run --> CMD SFC /SCANNOW )
