Hello guys ... I have problems installing windows xp or any other windows i have on my computers.

When you guys reformat your computers ... you go thru the cd instructions right? after it reformats the computer copies the files onto your HD. This is the part where I have problems. It keeps on saying i cannot copy a certain file down (press esc to skip the file ... enter to retry *if you skip the file windows might not be working) after a few retries and escs the window halts my installing progress and it says your computer has halted your computer to prevent futher damage. I tried the windows xp cd on my other computers and I had the same problem. I borrowed my friends copy and it had the same problem. Can anyone help me out with this? Thankyou

and btw .. i didn't have these problems back then and the cd barely have any scratches on them.

I have encountered this problem a few times. and as far as I can remember, almost every case has been bad RAM.

thx a lot ... time to check the ram now

Since you have tried the same xp disk on a different machine, and recieved the same results, I am guessing it is not the RAM on the origanal machine. Couple of things worth mentioning.

1. Check to make sure that the disk isn't an upgrade disk instead of a full install.

2. Are these machines that came preloaded, and then a program like GWSCAN was run, and then using the manufactures re-install disk you are getting the error? GWSCAN wipes out the manufactures partition, thus eliminating the support files for the re-install disk. At this point you will need a full version install disk.
