Windows keeps wanting to install updates that have already been installed. For example, I am prompted to download and install updates; I do and then it reboots. When Windows comes up back it says that the same update needs to be installed.
When I look at my Update history on Windows website it will even list the duplicate completed updates individually.
What is going on with this and can it be stopped without turning off the auto updates?

Is it just one update that is causing the problem, if so which one?

Try the second option on this Troubleshooting page, and follow the suggestions to solve the reason why the update is not successfully installed.

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server Update Services installation issues

There are different updates that do this. But they are all successful, yet they install numerous times anyway.

Try disabling any security software you have installed while the updates are being installed as one of those programs may be interfering with the update.

Have a look at this program, it will give you a second opinion as to whether the updates are installed correctly. Microsoft swears blind that they are not.
