Hi all, apologies if this has been discussed already but I see the search function for this forum still doesn't work...

Windows Vista: launching phone manager I get a cryptic "side by side" error. Is anyone aware of a known solution for this?

Thanks!

i believe vista is only supported on the latest 4.0 release for PM. check out the product bulletins on avaya's website. they are the best, first place to look for these types of compatibility issues.

Weird thing is I'm running the latest version (downloaded it this morning) and I used the individual app (PM) installer per the instructions.

Has anyone run into this particular issue? This is my first time installing any IPO apps on a Vista platform so I'm at a loss so far.

Thanks,

It depends what you are calling the latest version.

The latest version 2.1 or 3DT will not support Vista.

Support for vista is only introduced in the latest version 3.2 and latest version 4.0

As long as you have the above it is supported.

If you have any problems with this you need to contact your Avaya distributor, send them a screen shot of the error with the cfg and escalate a case in the usual way.

This is supported so you will get assistance.

The only other thing i could suggest would be to try running it in xp mode.

Right click the PM exe/properties/compatibility and try running in XP mode, see if that helps.

Because support has only just been introduced you may fnd that the common bugs that come up and people can advise you on have not come up much yet. It may be the first time this has cropped up.

Only Business and Ultimate verisons of Vista supported - so not Home Premium.

What do you have?

Sorry guys, I was thinking (hoping) this had been commonly run into and a known fix would pop into somebody's head, so I didn't properly provide all the details:

IPO 4.0.7
Vista Ultimate

I tried compatibility mode for XP SP2 but got the exact same error.

I'll chase this down and update y'all when I find a solution... of course if anyone thinks of anything first don't be shy :)

did you read this in the tech bulletin ?

3.18 Microsoft Vista Support
This maintenance release includes support for the Phone Manager and Soft Console User applications with Microsoft Vista Business and Ultimate editions. In order for Phone Manager or Soft Console to install correctly on Vista they must be installed using the “Custom” option from the User CD or installed using the individual applications standalone installer. The "Custom" install must NOT have any TAPI options selected. Please note that Phone Manager PC Soft phone is not supported on Windows Vista.

I did - I installed just PM using the standalone installer. I'm going to try reinstalling just for giggles and see what happens.

Hi

Just thought I'd add that I run 2.1.(73) and on my Vista Business computer I use Phone Manager 3.2.12 (another colleague uses PM 4.0.7) with no problems at all. I installed the Tapi and PM seperately.

The only unusual thing I think I've done is to turn off the damn annoying user access control in Vista (you know the relentless pop ups asking if you're really sure you want to install the software you are installing...)

I don't run PM in admin mode or any compatibility mode.

I am a domain admin so this might help?
