Windows update very slow to download 1

I just bought a new Sony Vailo PCG K23 laptop computer. All of the critical updates downloaded and installed fine. However, now when I try to download any windows xp update it is very slow. I have a broadband connection and when downloading the critical updates, it took only about 15 - 20 minutes for all critical updates. I mean takes hours to download and install 1 - 2 meg now. I have windows home edition and 2.8 gighz. Other than this everything works fine.

Any help?

Download on Monday the "Network" install of Service Pack 2 from: thread779-895863

The Windows Update service is going through a ton of changes to support Service Pack 2.

I was not dismissing your complaint, but honestly wait until Monday, and I strongly recommend using the "Network" download of Service Pack 2.

Might pay you to have a quick look at cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files too, but I imagine Windows Updates is going to be very busy for the next couple of weeks.
