Since microsoft launched Windows update v5 I cannot update any XP machines on my network. Afer looking for updates the message 'Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page' is displayed along with error [Error number: 0x80244018].

It appears to be an ISA issue as it works fine when I bypass ISA. Does anyone know what has to be configured on ISA to allow this to work?

Thanks,

Barry

We have not had any problems with our Test PC's being able to get to Updates through ISA after SP2. (Other than slow at times)

I can't see anything relevant in that KB. Did you make a typo with the KB number?

What I have found since the original posting is that when the site 'scans for updates' it does not pass the session logon credentials to my proxy server when it requests the info hence the proxy rejects the request (a bug in the Windows Update v5 site i'd say). If I grant full access to all users I am able to proceed to the area where I select XP SP2 for download however when I select 'Install Now' and accept the license agreement it fails to download anything so back to the drawing board.......

Windows update v4 works fine......

Just wondering, is it worth setting up sus on your network?

We will most likely look at that when we have more clients at XP however I am keen to find the root cause of this issue rather than implementing a workaround. It is all over various newsgroup so appears to be a common issue with the new v5 update site.

To date I am yet to coma across a fix.

Thanks,

Barry

No Luck yet Dan.

It seems to be a widespread problem. You will see what I mean if you search the Google groups for it. Essentially what is happening is the v5 site is failing to sent the logon credentials when it requests and downloads updates so unless you have an 'allow all users full access' policy for internet access (or allow anonamous web requests) it does not work. This is not an option for me as we use surf control for controlled access accross our user base. Microsoft's only suggestion so far is a 3 part fix which you can see at;

Unfortunately I cannot do the 'Disable "global" authentication' as it stops surfcontrol working so I am still awaiting a fix from MS.

Cheers,

Barry
