I click on windows update and it takes me to the correct site. I click on scan for updates, It then says "looking for available updates", but it never comes off 0% complete.
What is going on?
I have Norton antivirus and it is up to date. I have recently done a full scan of the computer with no problems.
Anyone have a clue???

Disable Norton, firewalls and everything else you have on then retry.

Scanning for updates stops at 0%

Disable the options Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script in Microsoft Internet Explorer:

Start Internet Explorer, and on the Tools menu, click Internet Options
Select the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings
Make sure the check boxes for Automatically detect settings and Use automatic configuration script are not selected
Also, verify that you can connect to SSL-enabled Web sites (sites that start with
You can also test your ability to connect to SSL sites using a SSL test site.

A successful test will show a page with:

SSL test
Thanks for using SSL

If you cannot connect to SSL sites then the Windows Update scan will not work. Make sure that the SSL port (port 443) is open on your network/firewall.

Thank you! I tried the above, but to no avail. HOWEVER, when I went to the support site for Windows Update, it also suggested that I download the latest scripting file (which I already had). I downloaded it again and WALA! It worked. Must have had a corrupted file. I hate those, don't you?

ahar good stuff mate !

Now get on with your work hehe

HA HA
I am retired, so the only work I have is playing with technology, swimming in the West Palm Beach Florida sun, and playing bridge. When I save up from SS, I will build myself a killer computer.
Thank you again.

To LKAlbert:

Where specifically did you go to get the scripting file?

I am experiencing the same problem.
