Windows Update Problem 1

I am having a using Windows Update. Today I rebuilt my machine. Once I got WindowsXP loaded, I wanted to update it with the latest software. I tried several different patches/updates in Windows Update but I get the same message each time "No Updates Were Installed". I have followed a couple of the threads here...check Add/Remove programs...nothing...rename catroot2...no luck.

What can I do now?

You renamed/deleted Catroot2, but did you delete the WUTEMP folder?

Look in these two log locations with notepad and see if the problem is identified:

C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update.log
C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4\iuhist.xml

Post the troublesome fragments here.

I removed WUTEMP. There is no c:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4\iuhist.xml. In fact there is no c:\program files\WindowsUpdate folder

This is the key error: Error 0x80072EE7

You are not reaching the secured server.
Microsoft has suspended the *.windowsupdate.com address redirection to windowsupdate.microsoft.com

To fix this go to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC folder (or WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC whichever the case may be). Open the "hosts" file with notepad and add the following line...

63.210.47.52 download.windowsupdate.com

That did it! I am now install service pack 1!
