Windows update not working after SP2 removal

I have removed Windows XP SP2 from my PC as it was causing so many problems. All seems to be working but I can not run a Windows Update I am getting:

[Error number: 0x80072EFE]

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page

When you launch Windows update it says checking for latest version then comes up with the error.

I have reinstalled SP1a and changed the CSDVersion in the registry but no good.

Any ideas?

Are you using a Proxy Server to access the internet?

Hi bcastner,

We do use Microsoft ISA Server 2000. None of my Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro SP2 users have problems. I was on XP SP1 before and it worked fine too, it was working fine on SP2 only stopped working once I removed SP2.

Going through the v4 windows update URL works perfect, updating my PC now
