Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to turn the security centre box that appears everytime one log ons on the bottom right hand screen? I have tried changing the settings, however it seems that the firewall option cannot be turned off. Consequently, everytime i log on, it says you have deactivated your firewall... bla bla

thanks,
joesil

Security Center is a Service which can be stopped and disabled via Services. Similarly so can the Window's Firewall and even Automatic Updates.

I just hid mine like all the other icons I don't need showing all the time.

A quick note. I have tried to shut off the security through services. They show to be shut off, but are still running. Now what to do?

The new Security Center has a system tray icon and alerts. You seem to not not want either:

Start, Run, regedit

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center
Add or Modify these three values:

AntiVirusDisableNotify
FirewallDisableNotify
UpdatesDisableNotify

Values: REG_DWORD [0/1] 0 = Enable, 1 = Disable

Here is an example using reg:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center" /v AntivirusDisableNotify /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

A reboot is required for this setting to take effect. The change is reflected in the UI (which is NOT always the case).

You can edit the registry to turn off balloon tips. In regedit go to:

HKCU\Microsoft\Software\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Add a new DWORD named EnableBalloonTips. Data = 1 for on, 0 for off. Set this value to 0 to turn off balloon tips.

To disabled the warnings of Security Center:
In the Security Center, on the left of the window is a section called Resources. Click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me". In the resulting window, choose your options.
