windows shutdown every 15 minutes

i have a pentium III 256 mb ram and windowx xpprofessional... i recently have to format the disk now every 15 minutos or so displa a message that say that some process do an action that have an unxpected finish in a ipc ,and, te pc will sutdown en xx minutes save all the open files... and count down time apeears in the bottom of that window i believe mi hardisk its crash... but today 3 friends told me its computers do the same thing... this will be a virus???

You just caught the latest worm that is in circulation.

Do this...

Go to the Windows update site and get all the critical updates that are listed.

Search for msblast.exe and delete that file.

If your comfortable going into the registry the bug lives here:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, name: 'windows auto update'

Delete it and reboot

Install a firewall immediately!!!

Update your virus scan utility, and run a virus scan, or run one online at

http://www.housecall.antivirus.com

Here is what has been found so far

- Scans sequentially for machines with open port 135, starting at a presumably random IP address
- uses multiple TFTP servers to pull the binary
- adds a registry key to start itself after reboot
