I've installed a fresh copy of 2003 Server on a Dell 1425SC server. After a few reboots network connections crashes on start up and I can't access or troubleshoot the network. The only thing that I can see that might be causing this is Windows update. When I run the Windows repair from the CD everything works fine again for a while. I can't find anything like this on google. Has anyone heard of something like this happening before?

Definitely not a hardware issue in my case. After having changed NICs with no change, I've found that the root cause of my problem is the fact that the COM+ Event System Service is being affected by the Network Connection Manager (netman) application permissions being reduced so as to not allow activation locally. This causes many, many bad things. Not the least of which is the Network Connections service to become "unstartable". So in my case, it's a software COM/DCOM permissions issue.

Hey ZipperHeadMan...
".. this is a hardware issue." LMFAO
You should sharpen your skills before you knock hardware, and definitely before you knock others. I kept my opinion to myself when I thought you were just inexperienced and trying to be helpful; but apparently you're just inexperienced and another useless part-replacer. Grow up, shut up, and you may learn something here from everyone. One other interesting note.... When I read your remark, the first thing I thought of was the movie, "Groundhog Day", with Bill Murray. You remind of one line in particular:

"Morons... your bus is leaving."

Have a nice day, and try not to hurt yourself while eating with a fork.

Hey kulpins,

Speaking of growing up.....you come off like a 10th grader.
My comments were for robinPCG not you.
This was his thread ya moron. Could care less about your problem.
Guess you like NT 4 better that 2K3 too?
Still sounds like a hardware issue to me, bios update from Dell might resolve the issue.

Kulpins if you listened more than you speak, you might learn something from experienced IT individuals, not opinions from highschool hacks.

No need to fight on my account, I'm quite inexperienced with Server. Personally, I'd use Linux and have a database and PPTP server running in a couple hours, but for user friendliness one must use Microsoft. It is frustrating when the system fails out of the box, and makes me question Microsoft's claims that the cost of administering a Windows Server is less than that of a Linux one. Just for the record I had already tried disabling the network adapters and have serious doubts that it is a hardware problem. I suspect that I have exactly the same issue as kulpins.

Tried the BIOS upgrade, it didn't work and caused a restart. Time to run Windows repair again.

If it came shipped with Server 2003 SP1 loaded, then try reinstalling SP1 downloaded from Microsoft.
