Hey Guys,
hoping one of you geniuses can help me.

we're running windows server 2000, we recently tried to implement some security functions on the server as i trying to limit access to certain programs to my programmer. he only needs access to certain power on the server to update database and what not. So i set him as a power user on the server, then individually set the permissions on programs i want him to be able to access. however, when he logs on to the server and tries to access a program i've given access too he's not able to run it. can anyone suggest anything concerning this problem. i want my programmer to be able to access the server but limit his access, if theres any other way to do this as well please suggest. thanks in advance!

Are you running Active Directory? You could create specific designed groups in AD to make you're job a bit easier. Good luck.

Thanks Glen,

no, we're not running Active Directory. We have a small company. 18 user in this office, and we're not on a domain controller network setup as of yet, thats why we havent yet setup an active directory. when we do switch over to a domain network i do intend to use active directory but as of now i need a solution that will run in a workgroup network.

any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Without knowing much about the program he is trying to run, I am guessing you'll have to dig deep into the program and assign him rights to various folders pertaining to the program. These could be program folders, data folders and maybe even some dll's in the windows directory. You may have to check with the program vendor to check on the rights necessary to run and update the program. There may be some registry permissions that need to be set also.
