Hi,

How do I get all the Windows Security Updates on my studio hard-drive XP install, without an internet connection? I only don't have the net on that drive because anti-virus and spyware software conflicts with some of the studio software.

I do have a work hard-drive to WITH internet connection though, so can i download them using my work drive and install them on my studio drive?

Cheers,

Paul

Hi

I Had a quick look online and found something called "Windows Update offline scan file" (see:
It seems you need to download a package to use the file (mentioned on thier page) but this could be what you need.

If your network has a Server with Windows Server 2003 installed then you can use Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (see: to update the client PCs, but the client PCs would have to be connected to the network which you may be trying to avoid for the anti-virus reasons.

Hope this helps

If your system is not connected to the Internet, then why bother with security patches/updates? You're already not running anti-virus, I'd be more concerned about that than about applying patches to protect my system from Internet exploits, etc.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

It was something that running Belarc Advisor flagged up. It showed all the security hotfixes that were missing and then had the following quote next to them:

These required security hotfixes (using the 07/10/2007 Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary) were not found installed. Note: CIS benchmarks require that Critical and Important severity security hotfixes must be installed.

So thought, i'd better get them and install them. Dunno if i really need them, but just had to ask if i could get them

Cheers,

Paul

A program called CTupdate will download and burn ALL of the XPpro and/or 2000 security updates. This includes XPsp2. You can burn CDs or DVDs. I make a new version when updating PCs that do not have a high speed connection and I include Office service packs. You would be surprised how much time you save having hundreds of megs that you simply load and run. Includes IE 7. This is a program everyone should have. Great for rebuilds too. You can patch your system before going on the web.
I have used this program a number of times to update offline PCs.
The program will update several Win OS versions.
Check this link.

Last note: There are some malware processes that use similar names in their processes. This is not a malware program.

If is not connected to the internet then you have no worries. Most of the patches and fixes are because some found an exploit thruogh the web.

I cannot agree with Sleepsalot. Are you ever going to sneakernet anything to this PC? Unless you never exchange information in any way, in either direction, you need to keep all your patches up to date.

On my studio hard-drive, the one without all the hotfixes, the only information exchange would be from transfering files to and from either the other work hard-drive or my memorystick if i download sounds, programs, files, samples, plug-ins etc for the studio..

I will try the program NARSBARS suggested, but first i need to format both drives due to possible bad ram and BSOD errors. Grrr..

But thanks to all of you anyway, much appreciated..
