Hi,
Good Day!

I want to edit the windows 98 OS registry commands (OS database containing hardware, software and other system control info). I have tried to edit (modify a registry's key values) but to no avail. It is not getting implemented, i.e., not effective.

A simple example- I was trying to change the default Title on the Internet Explorer from "Microsoft Internet Explorer" to "Zackria's Web Browser" by creating a value for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main to "Zackria's Web Browser" (you should be aware that the name of this value in this key is "Window Title" and has a data type value Reg_sz). But it doesn't have any effect.

So, please help me in effecting these changes.

Thanks in advance.

If you got to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main in regedit, right click on a space in the right hand pane and select new > string value. Enter Window Title as the name and hit enter. Double click on Window Title and enter your new title, click on OK and exit regedit. The next time you open IE the title will be there.

Hi Paul,

Good Day! Thanks for your response!!! :)

I have did the same thing what you have said, but it doesn't work... I don't know the reason...

Earlier, quite a long time back, my friend had used this same facilty to name the title to a customised one. And yesterday I had deleted this customised Window Title. It should have displayed the default title,i.e., "Microsoft Internet Explorer". But nothing happened, the title remained to the user defined title itself. Strange indeed, Please help.

Thanks in advance...

If I understand you correctly, you will have to delete the string Window Title by right clicking on the words Window Title and selecting delete. Just getting rid of the words that appear in the customised title will make no difference.

Hope that's what you need!

Yuo need to change the Value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE also.

thanks Mr mhughes... yes, I did that change in the hkey_local_machine... it works...

And how can I change that default search machine,i.e., whenever I type any search keyword in the address bar of MS IE, the default search engine- " gets acticated. I tried to change this- both in hkey_current_user as well as hkey_local_machine... but to no effect.

Please help.

thanks in advance...

use tweak revisited. one of it's options is the ability to
name internet explorer anything you want (without) messing
with our registry.

I want to make disapper the icons in the system tray in win98 machine.the user should be able to make disapper any of the available icons say a clock or msn or whatever still the programme be running in the background i.e msn be there somwhere but no icon in the system trey!!!!!!!

If it were me, I would go to register yourself (which is no big deal) and get the Internet Explorer Administration Kit and Customization code. This will allow you to build a customized version of IE plus allow you to implement many additional Window features that will help you in what your trying to do. Worked for me and also allowed me to really lock up the browser.
