I am looking for some type of GUI Explorer program that sees Linux(Mandrake)machines on the Microsoft network. My Linux machine can see and manipulate files on my Microsoft network machines automaticly without any kind of configuration. But my Windows machines can only connect to my Linux box with Telnet or FTP. Does anyone know of a freeware/shareware program that could do this?

What are you using for FTP? If you have Internet Explorer, then you can use it to explore a remote directory with FTP almost exactly the way you explore a local one. Just enter ftp://username@hostname.domain.com into your address bar.

Also, in what sense can your Linux box see the Microsoft network? You mean you can browse Windows shared directories? If so, then you already have Samba installed (at least the client). The reason the Windows computers can't see your Linux box is probably just because you haven't enabled any Samba shares from your Linux box. It takes a bit of work, but if you browse the documentation at or type "man samba" into your command line, you can learn about how to do this. Then, your shared folder on the Linux box will be available to whichever Windows users you grant access, just the same as any Windows shared folder.

Thanks everbody for the instant replies.
rycamor, I am a little hazy regarding shares on the Linux machine. I will readup some more on Samba and see if I can get a handle on sharing.

Thanks again. I might have to get back to you on this.
