Windows Messenger not alerting of Hotmail any more

I am not sure if I am in the right group for this issue, but here goes...

I installed Windows Messenger 6 (upgrade from 5). I used to be able to be notified when my hotmail account received mail. This no longer occurs. I would really like to have that functionality back. I looked everywhere in the properties and see no such option. Is there a plugin? Is there something I am missing? Did MS remove it from ver 6?

I'm looking at Windows Messenger at the moment but it should be basically the same:

In Messenger - Tools, Options, Preferences tab, check 'display alerts when e-mail is recieved'.

That should be where it is, but I've recently had unreliable results with this setting also. On one machine, I have it not checked, but the alerts still pop up.

you may need to download a plug in - do as smah says and you should be redirected to the msn site.

I looked in to this a little more and found that version 6 has a MSN Messenger, which does both the messenging and the .net emails. I remember it being a plugin before, but in 6 I do not see that optioin.
