Hi,

Is there any way of turning off the flashing orange alerts in Windows Messenger?

I have my taskbar sett to auto-hide and everytime my girlfriend messeages me at work, the taskbar comes back up to display the message alert flashing orange.
Is there any way to turn it into some sort of ninja mode so that my boss doesn't walk past and see it, lol?

Cheers,

Not in Microsoft Messenger, no. The easy answer here would be to not use it ;)

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

Tools > Options > Preferences > Alerts.

You can in MSN Messenger. Under Tools / Options, choose Alerts and Sounds, untick all of the alerts.

Doesn't that simply stop it makes noise, etc? I've never seen an option that stopped new messages flashing on the taskbar, You've always needed to use another IM interface.

The thing is, i do have all the alerts boxes unchecked. all i want it for the alerts not to 'wake' my taskbar, don't mind if they show up when i'm at my desk or whatever, i just don't want the alerts to make my auto-hide taskbar to come back up and show the alerts..
Its standard old skool Windows Messenger i have. I don't want to download MSN as its my work pc..

In Windows Messenger, if you have the box "Display alerts when an instant message is received" unticked, your taskbar should not to orange hence alerting you. This is set under Tools / Options, select the Preferences tab.

I can't speak for Windows Messenger but I know that unticking all of the alerts in MSN Messenger stops the taskbar icon flashing when a message is received.

The only thing on the preference tab that is ticked is the 'Show me as AWAY when i'm inactive for 5 minutes', all the other boxes are clear (unchecked) - yet i still get the alerts..
Actually, i've noticed that whenever i load outlook express, WM auto starts and signs me in, even though all the settings in both programs have been unchecked to stop this happening - weird..
