Windows media player problem

I have used the normal mindows media player in my app.
I want to be able to vary the aspect ration of movies in WMP (or another suitable player someone could recommend)
I want to play 3x4 avis and 16x9 video from my handycam that are recorded anamorphic( ie. they look shrunk horizontally if you play them full screen on a standard 3 x 4.). The camera uses the full image area when recording in widescreen like a widescreen DVD, not just blanking off the top and bottom like some do.

WMP sometimes plays widescreen in the right aspect ration, leaving the usual black bar at the top and bottom but there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason and I cant find the code to readjust it like you can do with most TV sets or DVD players,

As I change the width and height of the WMP box in my app. the picture keeps the same aspect ratio, with only the pic width following the borders of my box, not the height as well like it does with an image control in stretch mode.

Any ideas?

I should explain my problem further.
I have some older 16x9 screens that are fed from computers that are set to 3x4 aspect ratio. As a result all the pictures are stretched horizontally when viewed. I can't change this.

What I really want to do is to produce a horizontally shrunk up WMP movie picture when viewed on a normal 3x4 computer monitor(this is easy for graphics using Image control).

The StretchtoFit property of WMP doesn't seem to have any effect in VB6, the MSDN docs saying this only works in a web browser.

So is there another solution?
