Does anyone know of a glitch in CE (2002) with the Media Player, I have a new AudioVox Thera and Media Player will fuction once or twice, then when you try to open it, it will just flash across the sreen and disappear, it is not listed in the running processes, just won't start. I can uninstall it and re-install and it does the same thing all over, after one or two openings, it ceases to open, I installed the Windows Update for CE's Media Player yesterday, but that didn't help at all, same thing.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I haven't had this error but the update on Micro$oft's site may well be an older version than you already have installed. I had 8.5 pre-installed on my Viewsonic (running PPC 2002) and saw the link on M$'s web site to 'download the latest update for PPC 2002'. Unfortunately it 'updated' my media player to version 8.0 - an older version than I already had - without warning me. So be careful what you download! As my original version is only stored in flash ROM I'm going to have to hard reset my machine to get it back. Grr.

Thanks and that's probably what we are dealing with,

I was looking for updates for the OS and I see they are from the manufactuer, so I found one from AudioVox that is supposed to upgrade the Media Player, now this is a rom flash so it should correct the previous error?

Also how can I get this thing to run the new Voice activation package from Micro$haft? That is the one thing I miss from my cell phone is being able to voice activate calls and not have a wreck, there is a package for only 40 bucks that does it all, but it said your Pocket PC has to be a 4x version and mines 3x.

You can only upgrade your OS version with packages from the manufacturer as Micro$oft don't sell generic versions. Check the manufacturer's web site - if there's nothing listed then you probably can't upgrade.

I did and there was an upgrade, that was what I was talking about in the previous post, and I did install it and it was successful but the windows media player still won't run.

I was thinking about this and it was doing it from the start, that was why I did the upgade and it WAS a higher version, seems mine was 8 and this was 8.5,

Anyways it still won't work, in fact you don't even see the start up screen flash by any more, it just flickers and nothing happens.

I don't use it for saving the battery, but it would be nice when you're showing it off :)

Any other ideas?

Hmm, I think you need to contact the manufacturer. There's more than one kind of 'upgrade' and I suspect that the one you installed was something that they issued to fix known problems. From what you've said it doesn't work properly.

The kind I was talking about is a full-on upgrade of the operating system from Windows Mobile 2002 (also known as Windows CE version 3) to Windows Mobile 2003 (Win CE version 4). The voice command software that you mentioned requires Windows Mobile 2003. WM 2003 includes Media Player version 9.

If you want to run the voice command software you'll need to upgrade your operating system and you can only do that by buying an upgrade from the manufacturer (and then only if they offer an upgrade).

I will contact them and see what the deal is,

Thanks!
