I have recently downloaded media player 11 (as per the instruction from microsoft download centre)

When i double click the icon to begin using the program, it decides to tell me that i need to shut down, log on as an admin, or someone in an admin group, in order to finish installation.

I only have one account on my machine and it has full access rights so what could i do differently?

I have created a new test account to see if its just my machine playing up but that won't work either.

My desire for media player 11 is only due to me wanting to get my new xbox 360 hooked up though the media sharing facilities thus if someone can suggest another method of connecting the two, i would appreciate it.

What happens if you try to install WMP using the Built-in Administrators account, either by logging on to that account in Normal Mode (Ctrl+Alt+Del twice at the Welcome Screen) or by using the RunAs command?

Failed installs may sometimes leave bits of files all over the place so cleaning out Temp folders may help.

Guys, thanks for the replies - appreciated.

BigBadBen - that was the link i used the other day. It also pointed me to use WMP 11 too, rather than Zune. Perhaps there was an issue with the whole download so scrapped it in favour of zune. Must have been bad-timing on my part.

Linney - thanks for your links too - there are a couple i can use there outside of this query.

nice 1

I am assuming that you have it sorted out then...

good luck and have fun with it...
