I have an application that when I attempt to install on a seperate server, I receive the following error:

The specifed path ' is unavailable. The Internet Information Server might not be running or the path exists and is redirected to another machine. Please check the status of this virtual directory in the Internet Services Manager.

I read this error a dozen times and made sure of the following:

1. I was logged in as Administrator
2. IIS was running
3. The virtual directory did not already exist.

I have no idea why I am receiving this error. Thanks in advance to anyone that knows what else may cause this error.

Doesn't the virtual directory have to already exist? I got this error as well..

The virtual directory will be created by the installer.

May be dumb questions, but:

1. Did you choose a "Web Setup Project"?
2. Did you include the primary output of a project in the solution and its content files?
3. Did you use the Setup Wizard, or add things/change properties by hand?

"The virtual directory will be created by the installer."
It doesn't seem to be.. when I created the virtual directory by hand and then ran the setup.. all worked ok.

I did a Web Setup project and included the primary output and that's it.

I'll have a look at the doco and around the web and let you know if I find anything.

I don't know why this appeared to be the cause of the problem, but when I changed this setting everything appeared to have worked.

In the Default Web Site properties in IIS, I had my local IP address entered in the "IP Address" drop down. When I changed this setting to the "(All Unassigned)" value, the installation ran with no problems.

Like I said, I can't explain why it fixed the problem, but it did. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some learning to do.

"The virtual directory will be created by the installer."
"It doesn't seem to be.."

That's the way it works for me anyway! P-) If it doesn't, there's probably some property that needs to be set. If I recall correctly, the wizard method will handle it automatically.
