Windows freezes when goto desktop 1

I wonder if anyone can help.

Wheneveer I do a file browse in an application and goto the desktop in the browse, windows 2003 seems to freeze and the application stops responding. It only seems to be when I go to the desktop - other folders seem fine. Does anyone know what may be causing this problem and how I could fix it without doing a reinstall?

There may be lots of data on the desktop. move all data from desktop to anyother folder on C or D drive and then check it

Couldn't believe it but its true - thanks. Put all my shortcuts from the desktop into a folder on the desktop and the problem was solved.
