Windows Explorer slow 1

I am running Windows 7 (64 bit). When I bought the PC about 2 months ago, everything ran fast, but now the Windows Explorer seems to have slowed to a crawl. Can anyone tell me why this happened or how to fix?

I have a very large disk (600g) with512g free. I have checked to see if it needs defragging but analysis says it's not needed.

You're going to have to provide some more detail for any serious suggestions. Here are some possible things to consider and post back on:
1. Does it run the same in Safe Mode as well as Normal Mode (Windows)?
2. Were there any hardware changes made?
3. What do you mean slow? Have you checked the performance monitor to verify what amount of the CPU and RAM sources are being used up?
4. What security software are you running?
5. Do you have any reason to believe or not believe there could be a malware infection?
6. You could try a general system clean-up tool - Glary Utilities, CCleaner, Advanced Ssytem Care.
7. Try to do a Scandisk check, as well as a defrag once complete, and see if that helps any..
8. Any funny sounds coming out of your system?
9. Is your system running this slow ALL the time, or only during certain activities?

Try a different user to see if they have the same problem.

If you type Maintenance in the Start Menu SEARCH box it will throw up a few Wizards for you to check out. Maybe they can work some magic?

You might also give Google Chrome a try once you get things cleaned up.

Once I tried it I have not gone back to Internet Explorer and it is less prone to picking up those unwanted bugs etc.

It's free and doesn't conflict with IE in any way so you can try them side by side.

It even has a mode that blocks any data being sent out from you computer while you are browsing if you want.

Sorry I just realized you are talking about Widows Explorer.
I have seen so many people complaining about the new Internet Explorer being slow I took it for granted.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I found that there were settings in Windows Explorer that were causing it to workthrough all folders in the path before I could proceed. Once I changed the settings everything was fast again. I have no idea how they were reset.

The settings are found in the Folder Options window available under the Tools menu. Under the General tab in the Navigation pane section, there are 2 options. The first is Show all folders; the second Automatically expand to current folder.

When either of these were selected, my Explorer ran dead slow. When I deselected them both, Windows Explorer was fast again.

Again, I don't know how they were selected in the first place, but I'm just glad I found them and corrected the problem.
