Windows Explorer is slow when selecting large AVI video file

Whenever I select a large AVI video file in Windows Explorer, it takes around 15 to 20 seconds before I can move or delete the file. [mad]

I found the cause of the problem is that Windows Explorer is searching for information about the file. As soon as the file information shows up in the Windows Explorer status bar, I can then delete or move the file. If I try to move or delete the file before Windows Explorer has finished scanning for file info, then it complains with an error message stating that the file is in use. [evil]

Is there a way that I can prevent Windows Explorer for searching for any file info? I tried hiding the status bar, thinking that Windows Explorer would only search for file information if it needed to display it, but it looks for file info regardless of whether or not the status bar is displayed.

Thanks for your help, [wink]

have you tried disableing ther web content in folders? that can help. Also, disable popus descriptions for folders and files- that is the function that essentially like a preview of the file. Both can be done in the folder options. Michael Phipps

Yes, I have already turned off Web content in folder, and also turned off pop-up descriptions. They were not the cause of this problem.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Im guessing that its a Divx file, if so then join the long list of users who have problems with these with XP...

You can't really blame Micro$oft. Because the Divx format is not an "Officially recognised" format, and is still in development, you cant expect them to try and keep up with the latest version with streams of updates...
