Windows Explorer/Internet Explorer Crashing during File Download.

We automate critical Windows Updates for our XP machines. User runs a batch file that scans the pc then installs the updates as needed. I have one pc that when trying to download the file to run, gets error box: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

When I lookup for information on the error, I get the following from 'Help and Support Center':

By the way, this error happens during safe mode as well as if another user is logged into the machine.
 
Well, you cannot download from the internet in Safe Mode. So the assumption is that it is a system error that occurs independent of the actual batch file you are using.

Unfortunately, a 1000 error is just an error trap, it offers little, or in your case nothing, of help to resolve the problem. See this discussion:
