I have a W2K machine that will not show the disk drive Properties dialog screen when I right-click Properties from Windows Explorer. It also fails to show the folder properies dialog screen when I right-click on a folder. It does however display a file dialog screen when I right-click on a file.

Also I am unable to see the Properties dialog screen from Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management when I right-click Properties from a selected disk drive. I can see the hour-glass come up for a split second, but the disk properties dialog screen is never displayed.

This Windows 2000 Professional computer has all the latest updates installed.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem and restore the Properties dialog screen will be greatly appreciated.

No, ZoneAlarm is not installed. I am using Norton Internet Security 2003 though.

I have the same problems, but it occurs only by time to time. I can’t do anything after that because I get the message “Close the properties window before...” Also, when the problem occurs, I remarked that the icons that must be displayed in the right part of a window (Control Panel, for example) are displayed in the left one.
I mention that I have installed Windows 2000 Advanced Server, SP3 with full updates.
Best regards,
Eugen Fintina

you might have catched some spy/malware, run hijackthis/cwshredder/spybot or similar tool.
