Recently, instead of showing the name of the folder or subfolder Windows Explorer displays some unreadable characters, sometime they look like numbers, sometime like broken pieces of letters, eventhough the contents of the folder are displayed properly.

For example, if I click the folder Windows the word "WINDOWS" is shown in normal characters, but if I click to any of the subfolders under Windows the name appears as "179 3" instead of "SAMPLES", "7 1438;" for "MSAGENT", "; 158A ]" for "Twain_32", etc..

I recognized that after re-installing WinME the problem disappears but comes back later on. Pleas advise. Thanks.

I would recommend running a thorough scan disk. I would also run your anti-virus software and make sure it is up to date (Could be virus behavior). I have also seen similar behavior with overheating issues, so you may want to monitor your cpu temp. If I missing anything guys please post.

I just upgraded the videocard driver, and evething seems OK now. The driver that comes along with the card (ATI Xpert 98) may not be compatible with WinMe. I downloaded the updated driver from ATI and now I can read the directory's name.

Thanks.
