Windows Explorer Crashes when I search

I have a partitioned hard drive. If I do a search on drive C, it crashes. If I do a search on drive D, it's fine.
It's a brand new computer, so I can assume the installation was fowled at some point, but since it's my computer at work, I can't mess with it too much.

I defragged it last night in the hopes that it would fix this.
I ran a patch I found at this site:
But no such luck. Any ideas? I'm running WinXP.

It could be one of many things:

If it's the hard drive, do a complete cleanup. You can get more info on cleanup at
then, run scandisk and defrag

other things to try:

1. Try turning down the video acceleration a notch or so.

2. Update the video driver

3. (no, I am not nuts) Re-install or repair IE
