Hi.

I was wondering what would cause windows explorer to close on the spot when clicking on a folder in the left pane window? This started last night. I went through system file checker to see if a missing file could be the culprit but nothing seems to resembles explorer in the missing files.

In the past two days or so I have noticed the desktop turned white on me because of an error when Internet explorer, not win explorer, would terminate causing hard drive grind. After IE doing this, this is when the regular windows explorer started closing on me and not working right.
I have performs two scandisks and no apparent errors with any of the drives.

Is win explorer and IE conected in any fashion?

If anyone would know what causes this that would be great. Thanks for your time.

Win98?

One of the best things about 98, is that it keeps a backup of the registry for the past 5 days, or more with ini file editting. Re-loading the system will not fix registry errors.

Try hitting F8 on startup, choose command prompt only. At the c: prompt, type:
cd\windows\command
then type:
scanreg /restore
and choose yesterdays date.
