Windows Explorer Address Bar self-clearing

On multiple computers we have recently started experiencing the same problem. When Windows Explorer is open, we try to type a computername or IP address into the address bar. While typing, Windows Explorer refreshes and clears out what we had typed. This is especially annoying when it happens right before you press enter. The timing appears to be fairly random but under 5 seconds. I have noticed posts via google that blame VPN, firewall, antivirus and other pieces of software. We have none of the named software installed on any of the computers. Our feelings is that this behavior is tied to a recent Microsoft update as on many of the affected computers, that has been the only installs (no 3rd party programs allowed). Has anyone else experienced this issue and how can we cure it?

Can you repeat the problem whilst in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Does the same thing happen if you type an IP Address in the Address Bar of your Browser?

Does running System restore on one failing machine fix the problem for that one machine? If it did, can you redownload offered updates at one a time, and after each update check for the problem reoccurring?

The problem does not exist in safemode with networking.

The problem does not happen in IE just windows explorer. Problem is both with IP address and computer name

System restore is not an option as it has been disabled.

Can you further isolate the cause via Msconfig, perhaps concentrating on your Internet security programs, or even uninstalling the last few Windows Updates.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

I found the cause of the issue but as it appears to be a security hole/bug in a microsoft update I am reluctant to publish the cause ona public message board. I am informing Microsoft of the issue and will let them create a permanent solution for it.
