Hi,
I have set up two windows 2000 domain controllers to also function as dns servers. I thought the procedure for setting them up was fairly straightforward, but they don't work properly.
I first discovered that I had a problem when a colleague said that the nslookup utility didn't work right when he pointed the dns settings on his unix computer to the win2k server. I opened a command prompt on the win2k box and entered "nslookup" on the local server myself. It seems that IT doesn't like it either. I can't remember the exact error I receive but it is something like "can't find server." I do know the exact error I receive when I try entering its own ip address: "nslookup*** Can't find server name for address 10.2.134.130: Non-existent domain*** Default servers are not available Default Server: Unknown address: 10.2.134.130."
The DNS servers are set up as Active Directory Integrated as opposed to the Standard Primary or Standard Secondary DNS servers. Is this related to the problem I am having?
It is pretty clear that at the very least, I may not have the reverse lookup zone defined correctly. Any help getting this problem fixed would be most appreciated.
