Hi,
I have a bit of a problem. Everytime I try to run Spybot or Adaware the computer crashes and turn it self of. It also happens when I run Norton Antivirus.
Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

Jonas

Right-click 'My Computer' and select 'Properties', then go to the 'Advanced' tab. Click the 'Startup and Recovery' button to bring up the options box. Make sure that 'Automatically reboot' is un-checked. This will stop your computer from re-booting whenever Windows crashes, so you'll be able to read any error messages that are produced. That's a good starting point for tracking the problem down.

It sounds very much like malware that is keeping a watch out for anti-malware programs trying to detect/kill it.

Have you tried the Ewido online scan?

Hope this helps...

Yeah I would think it is malware that is messing you up. Mine done the same thing. I had to boot up in safe mode and uninstall Norton AV and go to my start up programs and remove all that I didn't think needed starting up at stert up. I ran adaware in safe mode (I think) and rebooted. I kept having problems I then deleted everything in my temp file and dumped the trash bin. uninstalled all the antispy software and rebooted - reinstalled adaware and ran. I think this took care of it.( also manually delete all of your temp internet files)

Mabe this will help.

:)

Do try your scans from Safe Mode and have a look at this FAQ.

Try the free version of "Ewido"

Hi,
The problems I have except the ones above are:
-Can't run "Disk Cleanup"
-Computer can't stratup in Safe Mode, I get a blue screen saying that I have conflict either hardware or software
-IE pop-ups don't work. Not the java pop-ups I mean pop-ups when target=_blank or when you press shift and click on a link in the browser.

I have tried
- virus scan from Symantec
- EWIDO online
- cwshredder
and non of them picked up anything.

Anyone have any suggestions where to start as I am running out of ideas??

The fact that you can't boot in safe mode indicates a hardware problem, although that doesn't mean that you don't also have a software problem.

The first thing I'd test would be memory, because doing so is easy. Visit http://www.memtest86.com/ and download the memtest86 software, either the CD image or the floppy installer. Create a bootable floppy or CD, boot your machine from it and let the tests run. A thorough test can take hours (running it overnight is good), but if you have faulty memory you might not have to wait that long to see errors show up.

Are you running any software similar to Nero's InCD, or Alcohol 120%?

WinXP Pro won't boot into safe mode

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

Hi guys and thanks for all the help

Something that came up on the blue screen before when I tried to boot up in Safe mode was a message saying "...conflict with Graph card..." or similar so I have uninstalled all ATI software as well.

I did uninstall INCD and after that I could boot up in Safe mode. But my computer still crashed very time I tried to run Spyboot or Adaware or similar.

I tried "Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows". It picked up 5 drivers that were unassigned and I renamed them as suggested.

The problem I have now is that the computer doesn't boot up at all - not even in safe mode. I get the same error msg in both Safe mode and Normal. (Are there any way to interpret those (Are there any way to interpret those messages?)

I got so sick of it so I decided to do a "Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)" but after I press R for repair my computer shuts down.

Should I just chuck the whole thing in the bin??

COuld it be that my harddrive is corrupted?

I removed my SATA hard drive and put in an IDE harddrive.
I get through the firt phase of the installing process ie I get the menu where I can choose to either install, repair etc. When I choose install the computer shuts down.
I guess that at least means it isn't the harddrive that is corrupt.

When I installed Win Xp Pro I forgot (read "didn't know") that I had to press F6 to install the drivers for my SATA harddrive.
As the installation went OK I didn't think more about it. When I have look in the BIOS the SATA hardrive shows up under IDE Channel 2 Master??
Could this be the issue??
